Development of the "Siemens Mitte" district
Stand: 03.11.2025
On the former Siemens site in Erlangen-Mitte, a new, lively inner-city district is being created on Werner-von-Siemens-Straße. This combines living, working, supply and leisure and creates sustainable added value for the citizens of Erlangen.
Informationen
Siemens AG is currently developing the Siemens Campus in the south of Erlangen. This also means that the "Siemens Mitte" district close to the city center along Werner-von-Siemens-Straße will be largely vacant and can be used for new purposes.
The city's active approach to the owners is proving successful. As a result of the round table, they have developed and implemented several reuse concepts for the "Siemens Mitte" district in coordination with the city:
- Nürnberger Strasse 74 has been extensively renovated and will be occupied by Friedrich-Alexander University with around 400 employees in 2025.
- The "Raspberry Palace" will become the new location of the Faculty of Philosophy at Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU). The conversion work began in November 2024.
- New building rights were created for the Blue Tower Quarter ("BIG APPLE") on the basis of a competition held in 2022. The 7th cover sheet for development plan no. 181 has been legally binding since 19.02.2026. Planning for the implementation of the project is currently underway.
- The office space at Schuhstrasse 60 has been redesigned and modernized for "New way of working". The building is occupied by Siemens with up to 1,500 employees.
- A competition was held for the Werner-von-Siemens-Straße 60 area in 2022/2023 with the aim of reorganizing the high-quality inner-city area and creating a mixed-use quarter with residential and commercial space. The next steps are currently being examined
- In recent months, Werner-von-Siemens-Str. 41-43 has been renovated by the owner. In 2025, the State Vocational School for Nursing and the Montessori Fachhochschule Franken moved in.
- Werner-von-Siemens-Str. 61 is largely rented by the city of Erlangen. Further parts of the building are rented by FAU. The building is currently fully occupied.
- New building rights were created for Mozartstrasse 33 on the basis of a competition procedure carried out in 2021. The 6th cover sheet for development plan no. 181 has been legally binding since 04.12.2025. Demolition work began in 2025. The foundation stone for the new residential and commercial building was laid on 08.05.2026.
2017 to approx. 2030
No planning costs are currently incurred.
In April 2024, a public city walk took place in the neighborhood. The administration reports regularly to the city council on developments.
