20a. Amendment of the land use plan with integrated landscape plan 2003 for the sub-area - extension of the south campus of the university
The Environment, Transport and Planning Committee of Erlangen City Council decided in a public meeting on 18.07.2017 to amend the land use plan with integrated landscape plan 2003 for the sub-area - extension of the south campus of the university - in accordance with the provisions of the German Building Code (BauGB).
In accordance with Section 2 (1) sentence 2 of the German Building Code (BauGB), the amendment resolution was published in accordance with local practice.
The amendment resolution for the 20th amendment to the land use plan covered two areas of application. In the further procedure, the 20a. Amendment of the land use plan with integrated landscape plan, only sub-area 1 (northern area of application) will initially be subject to an amendment procedure. Compared to the amendment resolution, this sub-area has been adapted and shortened slightly in the southern area. The spatial area of application is shown in the site plan below.
In accordance with the provisions of the German Building Code (Section 3 (1) BauGB), early public participation was carried out from 22.05.2023 to 30.06.2023 inclusive.

The Faculty of Engineering at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) has developed positively and the number of students has increased significantly. There is therefore a need for more space of over 54,000 m² for the Faculty of Engineering.
On May 2, 2017, the Bavarian Cabinet decided to massively strengthen the university locations of Erlangen and Nuremberg. The Faculty of Engineering at FAU will be "strengthened and further developed as a whole at the Erlangen location".
The City Council decided on the further procedure for the "Faculty of Engineering" in its resolutions of principle on March 30, 2017 and May 31, 2017.
The plan area is shown as a forest area in the 2003 land use plan with integrated landscape plan and is part of the "Brucker Lache" landscape conservation area. In order to create building rights and to ensure orderly urban development, it is necessary to amend the land use plan.
In accordance with Section 8 (3) BauGB, this will be carried out in parallel with the preparation of development plan no. 467 - Extension of Uni-Südgelände Ost. It is also necessary to amend the Brucker Lache landscape conservation area, which will be carried out in a separate procedure.
The master plan from June 2021, which was developed by the Erlangen-Nuremberg State Building Authority and the Friedrich-Alexander University in cooperation with the City of Erlangen, serves as the basis for the structural reorganization of the FAU South Campus.
