Preparation of development plan no. 440 of the City of Erlangen - Siemens Stadtquartier Süd - with integrated green space plan and early public participation
At a public meeting on July 24, 2025, the City Council of the City of Erlangen resolved to draw up development plan no. 440 - Siemens Stadtquartier Süd - with integrated green space plan for the area between Günther-Scharowsky-Straße, Schuckertstraße and Henri-Dunant-Straße in accordance with the provisions of the German Building Code (BauGB).
In accordance with Section 2 (1) sentence 2 BauGB, the decision to draw up the plan is hereby published in accordance with local custom.
The spatial area of application is shown in the site plan printed below. The map is based on the extract from the real estate cadastre from January 2026.
In accordance with the provisions of the German Building Code (Section 3 (1) BauGB), early public participation will be carried out. The objectives and purposes of the planning are presented to the public, who are given the opportunity to comment and discuss them.
The preliminary draft of the development plan with the explanatory statement including the environmental report will be published on the Internet from 23.02.2026 to 27.03.2026 inclusive.
Comments can be submitted during the publication period. These should be sent electronically to the e-mail address bauleitplanung@stadt.erlangen.de. If required, comments can also be submitted by other means.
In addition to publication on the Internet, the preliminary draft of the development plan with explanatory statement including environmental report will be on public display at the Office for Urban Planning and Mobility (Gebbertstraße 1, 3rd floor) from 23.02.2026 up to and including 27.03.2026 during opening hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00 - 12:00). There will be an opportunity to comment and discuss.

The early public participation will be accompanied by a public information event:
On Tuesday, 24.02.2026 there will be
a guided city walk through the plan area will take place at 17:00.
This will be followed by
- public information event will begin at 6:15 p.m., during which the planning will be presented.
The meeting point for both events is the Siemens Training Center (SPE), Henri-Dunant-Straße 1, 91058 Erlangen in the foyer. The events can be attended independently of each other. The venue is barrier-free. All interested parties are cordially invited to attend.
Siemens AG has been developing an open, modern and sustainably designed district - the Siemens Campus Erlangen (SCE) - on the approximately 54-hectare former Siemens research site in the south of the city of Erlangen for around 10 years.
On the site in the southern area of the campus (formerly modules 3, 4 and 6), a diverse and sustainable living environment is to be developed in a new urban quarter with a range of different types of housing, supplemented by commercial uses. Siemens AG held an urban planning competition in close cooperation with the city of Erlangen to develop the urban planning concept in more detail as a basis for the forthcoming planning permission. The competition entry by LAUX Architekten GmbH, Munich, in collaboration with Terra.Nova Landschaftsarchitektur, Munich, won first prize.
The jury recommended that the awarding authority make the first prize-winning design the basis for further planning and commission its authors to carry out further work, taking into account the written assessment of the jury and the relevant policy resolutions of Erlangen City Council. The revised competition result forms the basis for the present development plan no. 440, which creates the legal requirements for implementing the design and secures the essential urban qualities at an early planning stage.
In addition to the creation of urgently needed living space, the main aim is to integrate the new urban quarter into the existing urban and natural fabric and to achieve a compatible mediation with the diverse scale of the adjacent development structures. Completing the settlement area will also improve the district's connection to the Brucker Lache nature reserve.
The preliminary draft of the development plan is also on display in the town hall foyer during the presentation period.
