At the Lobersberg
Stand: 24.02.2026
The annual toad migration to the wetlands will result in a night-time closure from February 23 to probably April 30. The area between the highway service area and the Herzogenaurach northern bypass is affected.
The annual road closure in the evening and at night has saved a large number of endangered amphibians ("Red List species") in recent years. For this reason, the local road Am Lobersberg between the highway service area and the Herzogenaurach northern bypass will once again be closed to traffic at night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. from February 23 to probably April 30. It cannot be used by pedestrians and cyclists either.
Background: When the days get longer again and temperatures are mild, the toad migration starts up again. The first of the native amphibians have already set off in mid-February due to the current mild temperatures. They are migrating back to the wetlands. The Environmental Protection and Energy Agency therefore asks drivers to be considerate.
The erection of an amphibian protection fence along the village pond has proven to be a very good protective measure. Near Steudach at the village pond, volunteers are already out on the road at night on behalf of the Erlangen Nature Conservation Association to rescue animals. It is therefore expected that toad collectors will be walking alongside the road in the morning and evening hours until the end of April. The Office for Environmental Protection and Energy Issues therefore asks all motorists to drive particularly carefully past the toad fence for the safety of the collectors.
