Education Reports and Publications on Education in Erlangen
Stand: 10.07.2026
Education is important for the social and economic development of society. In many areas of education, responsibility lies not with the federal or state governments, but with the municipalities themselves. For this reason, many municipalities rely on data-driven municipal education management to plan and steer developments in the field of education.
To provide an overview of the current local educational situation, educational reports and other publications on specific areas of education are released at regular intervals. These reports examine the broader context and trends in the education sector, derive recommendations for action for policy-making bodies, and provide general information about educational opportunities and programs in Erlangen.
The Education Office works closely with other departments in preparing these education reports and publications. Each education report is supported by a working group of experts from the respective educational field, with whom the recommendations for action, among other topics, are discussed. After an education report is published, the Education Office oversees the implementation and ongoing evaluation of the proposed recommendations for action.
As part of the Erlangen Education Initiative, the first Erlangen Education Report was published in 2011, providing a comprehensive overview of the educational situation in Erlangen. This report did not include recommendations for action but was limited to presenting statistical data. The second Erlangen Education Report (2016) was prepared by the newly established Education Office. In addition to information relevant to the management of local education, it contains recommendations for action that were developed in various expert groups.
Since 2019, subreports on individual areas of education have been published. These allow for an even more detailed and comprehensive portrayal of the respective areas of education.
The following education reports have been published to date:
- Adult Education in Erlangen 2019. Subreport in short and long versions
