The partial report of the Education Office of the City of Erlangen focuses on family education and early childhood education in Erlangen. A special focus is placed on developments in both areas of education during the coronavirus pandemic.

The partial report covers family education and early childhood education in Erlangen. A special focus is placed on developments during the corona pandemic. Data-based developments in recent years are shown, needs are identified and, where possible, recommendations for action are formulated.
In the chapter on family education, the framework conditions as well as the living and housing conditions of families in Erlangen are presented (Chapter 4). The broad-based family education landscape in Erlangen, its development and the work of the Family Education Coordination Office of the Erlangen City Youth Welfare Office are then presented (Chapter 5).
The chapter on early childhood education presents figures on children of pre-school age in Erlangen and addresses the "inheritance of educational inequalities" (Chapter 6). This is followed by an overview of children and staff in Erlangen's daycare facilities and childminders as well as other non-formal education services (Chapter 7).
The focus chapter on the coronavirus pandemic first provides an overview of the coronavirus measures that have primarily affected early childhood education and family education (chapter 8). This is followed by a discussion of selected and national study results on the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on parents, children and young people as well as professionals (chapter 9). This is followed by a data-based presentation of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on early childhood education and family education in Erlangen (Chapter 10) and the results of a qualitative survey of professionals from both educational sectors conducted by the Education Office (Chapter 11).
The final chapter identifies various challenges and needs. Numerous measures have already been developed and implemented in Erlangen. In addition, recommendations for action have been formulated regarding the expansion of childcare places, the staffing situation, digitalization, further training and the structure of services.
