Volunteering: City honors associations and initiatives
Stand: 20.12.2024
Around 600 groups, institutions and associations and many more individuals volunteer in Erlangen. Every year, the city thanks them for their exemplary work at the traditional volunteering event in the Markgrafentheater.
At the event a few days ago, Lord Mayor Florian Janik was able to pay special tribute to three associations and initiatives. The honorees:
Kolping Family Büchenbach
It was honored in the category of long-standing commitment. The Catholic social association is involved in society and the church, in Büchenbach and far beyond. As an intergenerational community, the Kolping Family offers events for children and young people, families, single people and senior citizens. Above all, there are a variety of educational programs, as well as offers for leisure activities and community care in the district. According to the motto of the association's founder Adolph Kolping, the Kolping Family Büchenbach tries to "live responsibly and act in solidarity" and supports projects in Romania, India, Nigeria and other countries.
Teilerei (the particle) gUG
It was honored in the category "Everyday heroes and heroines". Teilerei sells food that has passed its best-before date or does not meet the standard, for example. Minimizing food waste is one of the aims of this concept, as well as providing a place to try out, educate and exemplify a socially just world for all. The Teilerei lives from the fact that different people (including 65 volunteers) save food from the garbage can. The activities include collecting, sorting, preparing and filling the goods and processing them further, e.g. into bread potato chips, banana milk or other ideas of their own. In addition to the day-to-day running of the store, the Teilerei offers events and projects in which volunteers participate or design them themselves from scratch. A "Teilereit meeting" takes place every three months to exchange ideas.
Scouts from the Asgard tribe
The group from the Bund der Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinder e. V. (BdP) was awarded in the "Young Ideas" category. It offers voluntary youth work for children and young people. With over 120 members, it is currently the second largest tribe in Bavaria. In addition to the weekly group sessions, the Asgard tribe also organizes between two and four camps and trips each year. There are also numerous activities that involve singing, working and scouting together. Vacation care for non-Scout children is also part of the program.
