Commitment of adidas and the Free State of Bavaria to StUB

Stand: 04.03.2026

On February 27, the Free State of Bavaria, the City of Herzogenaurach, adidas AG and the Zweckverband Stadt-Umland-Bahn (StUB) signed a joint declaration on the routing of the Stadt-Umland-Bahn in the area of the adidas campus in Herzogenaurach.

Lord Mayor Florian Janik welcomes this declaration. "This is a very good day for the cities and the region. adidas and the Free State of Bavaria are expressly reaffirming their support for the Stadt-Umland-Bahn, sending a strong signal. They know that the future viability of the location is directly linked to the realization of this project."

Important infrastructure project

The Stadt-Umland-Bahn is the most important infrastructure project for the future of the region and a decisive key to remaining one of Europe's leading innovation and business locations in the future. It sets the course for growth, employment, international competitiveness and sustainable mobility, Janik continued. "With the Stadt-Umland-Bahn, we are connecting large companies, universities and research institutions to create an efficient, even more closely networked innovation area," he emphasized.

Urban-rural railroad as a location factor

"Our location is strong. If local authorities, the Free State and industry pull together, as with the StUB, we will bring it even further forward," Janik continued. The agreement shows that everyone is prepared to take on this responsibility together, even if it is difficult. Whether it is the global players in the region, from adidas and Puma to Schaeffler and the Siemens companies in Erlangen, or the Friedrich Alexander University and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, they are all competing internationally for the brightest minds, the best ideas and the most innovative products. "An efficient, reliable and climate-friendly transport infrastructure is not an add-on, but a mandatory prerequisite for investment, growth and long-term location decisions," emphasized Janik. "I look forward to the start of the planning approval process."

We are building the StUB

As a sustainable and efficient transport alternative, the Stadt-Umland-Bahn (StUB) is to connect the cities of Nuremberg, Erlangen and Herzogenaurach and also the communities to the east of Erlangen.
