Committed. Integrated.
Stand: 11.12.2024
Commitment brings people together. Anyone who gets involved in something and with others makes contacts and actively helps to shape society. Commitment creates encounters, promotes togetherness and mutual understanding. Commitment is diversity in action in the community and a path to integration.
The position of the integration guide is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Integration.
As full-time integration guides, we are the central point of contact for the city of Erlangen on the subject of voluntary work in the areas of migration, asylum and integration. We provide support and information to interested and committed Erlangen residents, migrant organizations, associations and initiatives that are active in this area or would like to become active. We would like to encourage and support Erlangen residents with a refugee or migrant background to take up voluntary work. We provide information, advice and support with the first steps.
Do you have any questions, suggestions, ideas or proposals? Then simply get in touch with us.
You can reach us Monday to Thursday mornings by telephone on 09131/86-2655 or 09131/86-1898.

Getting involved with a language barrier? It's possible!
How volunteering opportunities can be designed for people with little knowledge of German
Thursday, 20.02.2025, 19:00 -20:00, online
Is your association looking for volunteers? Wonderful! There is a lot of potential, for example among people with little or no knowledge of German who would like to contribute their skills to volunteering. But a look at the volunteer finder shows: Only a few offers are explicitly advertised for this target group. New ideas and creative approaches are needed here. Birgit Bursee, Head of the Magdeburg Volunteer Agency, will explain how language barriers become less significant and which formats are suitable for enabling people with little knowledge of German to start volunteering, based on her own experience from various volunteering projects.
The event is free of charge. Please register by 17.02.25 at engagiert.integriert@stadt.erlangen.de.

Simple language - Why do I need it in the association?
Saturday, 15.03.2025, 10:00-13:00 h
Location: Office for Citizen Participation and Volunteering, Hauptstraße 48, 91052 Erlangen
"German language, difficult language!" Many people are familiar with this sentence!
Not only newcomers have difficulties understanding everything in everyday life. Language barriers affect many groups of people.
However, participation should not ultimately fail because of the language.
Why is it important to think about language? How can an association reach as many people as possible and have a better conversation with them? How can I express myself in a way that is easy to understand?
Schila Németh-Heim, Inclusion Officer for the City of Erlangen, will address these and other questions in her presentation and provide important tips on how to overcome language barriers.
The event is free of charge. Please register by 10.03.2025 at engagiert.integriert@stadt.erlangen.de.

Commitment needs diversity! - Diversity needs commitment!
Inspiration, tips and practical examples
It's actually quite simple: non-profit associations and organizations are looking for volunteer support, people from a wide variety of backgrounds want to get actively involved and are looking for meaningful work. Perfect! But bringing the two together is often not so easy.
Why is that? How can clubs and organizations approach the topic of diversity? How can diversity be promoted in your own club? And what added value does this bring for everyone?
Vanessa Körner, lagfa Bayern, will show where the challenges and opportunities lie when it comes to diversity in associations.
The event is a cooperation between the Office for Citizen Participation and Volunteering and the Integration Guides of the City of Erlangen.

The AWO Erlangen language mediator pool project supports people with little knowledge of German in communicating in various institutions.
The language mediator pool supports non-German-speaking citizens in communicating with public offices, social institutions, schools or doctors' appointments who cannot afford to pay for interpreting services. Volunteer language mediators are deployed, who are coordinated and supervised by the AWO. Needs-based training is offered to prepare the volunteers for their work. In addition, the language mediators receive a travel allowance for each assignment.
The pool of language mediators already includes many volunteers with different language skills. However, we are still looking for new language mediators who would like to volunteer in the region. We are particularly looking for people who speak a foreign language and have business fluent German at B1 level.
Anyone who would like to make use of the language mediation services can contact AWO Erlangen by email, stating their name, date, time, expected duration of the appointment and the language required. The request should be made at least 2-3 days before the appointment. Anyone interested in volunteering as a language mediator can also get in touch.
