Committed. Integrated.
Stand: 23.02.2026
Full-time integration guides are the central points of contact at the city administration for voluntary work in the areas of migration, asylum and integration.
Commitment brings people together. Anyone who gets involved in something and with others makes contacts and actively helps to shape society. Commitment creates encounters, promotes togetherness and mutual understanding. Commitment is diversity in action in the community and a path to integration.
As full-time integration guides, we are the central point of contact at the City of Erlangen for volunteering in the areas of migration, asylum and integration. We provide support to interested and committed Erlangen residents, migrant organizations, associations and initiatives that are active in this area or would like to become active. We would like to encourage Erlangen residents with a refugee or migrant background to take up voluntary work. We provide information, advice and support with the first steps.
This project is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Integration.

#OnOctober 1, 2025, a new initial reception facility for refugees will gradually be put into operation in Henri-Dunant-Straße in the Bruck district.
Refugees who have recently arrived in Bavaria and are in the asylum process will be temporarily housed there. They receive medical care and specialist advice on site.
Volunteer work is also very welcome at this accommodation.
Volunteers who would like to volunteer in the accommodation and organize an activity program can contact us integration guides. We are responsible for coordinating the volunteer activities.
The integration pilot team can be reached by telephone on 09131/ 86-2655, 86-1898 or 86-3886.
You can send your request by email to engagiert.integriert@stadt.erlangen.de.
Further information on accommodation can be found on the website www.erlangen.de/aktuelles/faq-erstaufnahmeeinrichtung. The FAQs are updated on an ongoing basis.
Do you have a history of migration and want to volunteer? Are you new to Erlangen?
Then come to the migration-sensitive volunteering advice service!
Together we will look for suitable volunteer positions to find your place in volunteering. Regardless of whether you have sufficient knowledge of German or not: Advice is available in plain language or in a foreign language. If you wish, you can also be accompanied on your first volunteer assignments so that you get off to a good start.
You can find more information on migration-sensitive volunteering advice here.
The migration-sensitive advice is a cooperation between the integration guides of the city of Erlangen and the Office for Citizen Participation and Volunteering.
The AWO Erlangen language mediator pool project supports people with little knowledge of German in communicating in various institutions.
The language mediator pool supports non-German-speaking citizens in communicating with public offices, social institutions, schools or doctors' appointments who cannot afford to pay for interpreting services. Volunteer language mediators are deployed, who are coordinated and supervised by the AWO. Needs-based training is offered to prepare the volunteers for their work. In addition, the language mediators receive a travel allowance for each assignment.
The pool of language mediators already includes many volunteers with different language skills. However, we are still looking for new language mediators who would like to volunteer in the region. We are particularly looking for people who speak a foreign language and have business fluent German at B1 level.
Anyone who would like to make use of the language mediation services can contact AWO Erlangen by email, stating their name, date, time, expected duration of the appointment and the language required. The request should be made at least 2-3 days before the appointment. Anyone interested in volunteering as a language mediator can also get in touch.
