"Statistik aktuell" on Erlangen's voices on climate change

One of the focal points of the 2023 citizens' survey was Climate Awakening. This refers to the city of Erlangen's goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2030. In this report, the opinions of citizens on this campaign are examined in depth and supplemented with data from the 2020 citizen survey on climate protection and the climate emergency.

Key findings include the following:

• Just under half of citizens are aware of Climate Awakening, especially older people and newspaper readers.
• The general attitude towards climate protection can only be attributed to a person's socio-demographic background to a small extent; fear of the consequences of climate change, for example, has a stronger influence.
• People in Erlangen see conscious consumption and environmentally friendly mobility as the most suitable options for action in their private lives.
• However, a fifth of those surveyed lack information on how to act in a climate-friendly way.
• The overall assessment of the Climate Awakening campaign seems to depend, among other things, on the personal assessment of the need for action.
