First underground container for used glass
Stand: 12.02.2025
The noise level is minimized in contrast to the above-ground tanks.
The first so-called underground container for the disposal of used glass in Erlangen was officially put into operation by Mayor Jörg Volleth on January 16. The container, which is "sunk into the ground", is located on the corner of Schenk-/Johann-Kalb-Straße in Röthelheimpark. The facility was installed at the junction as part of the redensification and associated road construction measures in the former housing area. It replaces the existing glass containers there.
What are underground containers?
They are a clean and attractive solution for the design of recycling collection points. The attractiveness and quality of the residential environment is increased. At the same time, illegal waste dumping is reduced. Three collection containers, each with a capacity of three cubic meters, are housed underground.
Operation is simple. For each type of glass (white, brown, green), a deposit column protrudes from the ground. The insertion height is significantly lower than before. Used glass can therefore be disposed of with fewer barriers. The noise level is also minimized compared to the above-ground containers.
