First electric hydrogen vehicle
Stand: 28.05.2024
The company for waste management, street cleaning and urban greenery has been using a fully electric bulky waste vehicle with a hydrogen range extender since December.
Erlangen is setting another milestone in climate protection and e-mobility. The city is one of the first municipalities in Germany to expand its fleet with a fully electric bulky waste vehicle with a hydrogen range extender.
At the presentation of the brand new 26-tonne vehicle on December 4, Mayor Jörg Volleth thanked the project sponsor Jülich for the funding: "This has given us the opportunity to add a vehicle with state-of-the-art technology to our fleet. The new vehicle replaces a diesel vehicle. The truck, which was specially developed for bulky waste collection, is our new flagship in terms of alternative drives. In future, we will be on the road cleanly and quietly for the people of Erlangen. We are also creating an emission-free working environment for our refuse collectors.
Emissions of harmless water vapor
Vehicles with fuel cells use hydrogen as an energy source, which generates electricity and keeps the engine running. Only harmless water vapor comes out of the exhaust. The 26-ton vehicle combines a fully electric chassis with safe hydrogen fuel cell technology as a range extender. This combination achieves the operating times and ranges of vehicles with conventional drive technology. In addition, the new truck contributes to
fulfillment of the "Clean Vehicles Directive" quota. This is in accordance with the Clean Vehicles Procurement Act.
Vehicle ensures less noise
The H2 MOBILITY hydrogen filling station in Henry-Dunant-Straße is just 800 meters away from the building yard. This means that the two hydrogen tanks on board can be refueled at any time. The refueling time is seven to 15 minutes. Lorenz Jung, CCO and Managing Director at H2 MOBILITY Germany: "We congratulate the city of Erlangen on the commissioning of the fuel cell vehicle. The hydrogen drive has many advantages - short refueling times and low payload restrictions. In addition, the commercial vehicles are pleasantly quiet and thus contribute not only to climate protection but also to noise reduction in cities."
The new acquisition was funded by Project Management Jülich as part of the NIP ll (National Innovation Programme Hydrogen) funding program, coordinated by NOW (National Organization Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology).
Fuel Cell Technology).
