Family education facilities

A family education center is a mother-child meeting place for families with babies and toddlers. It is run by the city of Erlangen.
A family education center accompanies families, mothers, fathers and children from pregnancy until the transition to a crèche or kindergarten.

A family education center offers support even in difficult times, advice, early parent education and contact with other families. The children find their first playmates and are encouraged in their development through play. There are regular excursions and once a year a leisure trip lasting several days.

For all families, mothers or fathers who want the following in the first few years with a child: togetherness with other families, playful developmental stimulation for the child, relief, practical help, tips and information from experts, themed mornings, advice, guidance and support from trustworthy and competent contact persons.

You can expect:

• child-friendly and lovingly equipped rooms with space for your child to play and run around
• meeting other families and children
• a small, healthy breakfast
• happy and serious conversations, singing, playing, creativity and exercise together
• Seasonal celebrations, joint excursions and a mother-child trip lasting several days
• Relief and a break from everyday life so that you can keep your strength up despite the demands of your life
• valuable information, tips and practical help: on child development, healthy growing up, breastfeeding, feeding, sleeping, child language development, health in the family, nutrition, economical housekeeping, partnership, finances, starting a career and much more.
• Experts from all over Erlangen also come to the center to discuss all of these topics.
• Experienced and competent contact persons are ready to listen and advise you on all personal or family issues, even in difficult times. At your request, you will be supported in the transition to specialized help.
• The staff are subject to the provisions of social data protection and the general duty of confidentiality.

Yes, trained and experienced social pedagogues work in every family education center. They have an open ear for all your concerns and questions and will also support you in difficult times.

The babies or toddlers are always there. They find peers to play with and are playfully stimulated in their development through joint activities between mothers and children.

Depending on the facility and demand, daily or several times a week or once a week.

You can simply drop by. But it's better to call in advance. Then there will certainly be someone there on your first visit who can take time for you.

The visit is free of charge. There are small fees for the mother-child trip lasting several days and occasionally small cost contributions for excursions. Solutions are found if it is difficult to afford these amounts.

Fathers are very welcome to visit the facility with their child.

Yes, pregnant women are welcome. There is also an Open Pregnancy Café for expectant mothers every two weeks.

Yes, if there is no family education facility in your district, you can enquire at one of the three existing facilities to see if there is space available.

The first years of a child's life and as a family are beautiful and valuable. But they can also be very stressful and challenging - a time of reorientation that brings with it many questions. The city of Erlangen supports families during this important time.
