FAQ Initial reception facility
Stand: 16.09.2025
Large accommodation in the best possible environment to care for people has proven its worth. Answers to frequently asked and important questions can be found on this website.
On October 1, 2025, a new initial reception facility for refugees will gradually be put into operation in Erlangen. The accommodation is located at the end of Henri-Dunant-Straße in the Bruck district and has been rented from the government of Middle Franconia for an initial period of ten years.
When completed, the facility will offer space for up to 600 people who have recently arrived in Bavaria and are in the asylum process. They will be temporarily housed there, provided with medical care and supported by specialist advice. The aim is to ensure a safe and structured initial reception.
Proven model of central accommodation
Erlangen has had good experience with centrally organized accommodation in recent years. From 2022 to 2024, the former Siemens administration building "Himbeerpalast" was used as emergency accommodation for up to 400 refugees. This model not only enabled reliable care and good connections to medical and social support services, but also helped to ensure that no gymnasiums were needed as emergency accommodation.
As it was clear from the outset that the use of the Raspberry Palace would only be possible on a temporary basis, a new solution was sought early on. The property in Bruck now provides accommodation in a suitable environment that builds on the proven concept.
Volunteering still in demand
As in the past, voluntary work will also play an important role at the new facility. People who would like to get involved by providing everyday help, language support or one-off assistance are very welcome.
