On Saturday, September 19, the city of Erlangen invites you to experience cemetery culture from a new perspective.
On Cemetery Day, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Central Cemetery (Äußere Brucker Straße 53), there will be a program offering opportunities for information, socializing, and open discussion about grief, remembrance, and burial. The event aims to break down reservations, share knowledge, and help people experience the cemetery as a place of remembrance, culture, and connection.
In a relaxed atmosphere, visitors can learn about various aspects of funeral culture while enjoying coffee and cake from the mobile bike café “Café Kränzchen” and refreshments provided by the local brewery “Kreis Bier.” Expert advisors, as well as various service providers and organizations, will be on hand to answer questions about grief counseling, different forms of burial, and types of graves.
The program is complemented by the art exhibition “Schwellenangst,” whose works invite visitors to pause and reflect, opening up new perspectives on the themes of life, death, and saying goodbye.
Another highlight is a reading by author and actress Petra Frey from her book “Sterbemund.” Afterward, attendees will have the opportunity to speak with her and have their books signed.
