Remember.Learn.Live - A place of remembrance in Erlangen
Stand: 23.01.2025
The feasibility study commissioned by the city, Friedrich-Alexander University and the University Hospital has been completed. It was presented to the public on January 9, 2025.
Another important milestone has been reached on the way to creating a memorial and learning site for the victims of Nazi "euthanasia":
- A memorial trail in the grounds
- a basic exhibition in the main building of the former sanatorium and nursing home, combined with an extension that shows the fate of those murdered
- an elaborate educational program.
The steering group of
- experts from the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU)
- the city of Erlangen
- the University Hospital Erlangen
has presented a comprehensive feasibility study together with the two Berlin offices chezweitz and Hoskins Architects. Under the motto "Remembering, learning, living", it outlines the possibility of a lively and participatory place of inclusive remembrance culture. It takes the entire site into consideration. And it focuses on interaction and the constant presence of remembrance in everyday life. The project could cost just under 45 million euros to implement by early 2030.
The complete feasibility study is available to all interested parties at https://www.str1.rw.fau.de.
