If your child care provider is unavailable, the Child Day Care Service can provide substitute care.
In addition to early childhood educators and childcare workers, people from other professional fields also work as child care providers. They receive training through special courses offered by the Child Care Services Department.
- Anyone who wants to become a child care provider must complete our 85-hour basic course. This includes an observation period with a child care provider and at a daycare center.
- After the suitability assessment, we issue a childcare license.
- This is followed by a 215-hour advanced course that is completed on the job.
- After completing the qualification courses, child care providers continue their professional development on an ongoing basis, with a minimum of 15 hours per year, though usually significantly more.
- The child care provider who normally cares for your child is not working that day.
- You are unable to arrange childcare elsewhere.
- Your child has been with the child care provider for at least 3 months and has settled in well there.
- Your child has also adjusted to the alternative care arrangement.
- There is still sufficient capacity available on these days.
There are three steps to help children adjust to temporary childcare:
- Step 1 – The Parents
After consulting with the responsible childcare providers, you and your child will be invited to playgroups. This gives your child the opportunity to see the rooms and the childcare providers regularly, and to establish and maintain a relationship with them. - Step 2 – The Child Care Provider
The child care provider comes regularly with the children in their care to the playgroup at the specialized service during the usual care hours. These meetings are supervised by the responsible educators. - Component 3 – The Teachers
The teachers make regular home visits to the child care providers to observe the children in their familiar surroundings and learn about their daily routines.
When everyone works together, the adjustment period goes smoothly!
Children who have not completed the adjustment period cannot be cared for.
Spots in emergency childcare are limited. In some cases—especially during school breaks or if several child care providers fall ill at the same time—we may not be able to accept your child. In such cases, we allocate spots based on social need.
Please coordinate your vacation dates with those of the child care provider in advance, as much as possible. If substitute care is nevertheless necessary, parents should contact the responsible teacher well in advance to arrange substitute care for their child.
In our gallery, you'll find some photos of the rooms and outdoor areas at the temporary childcare facility operated by the Child Day Care Service.
