• You will complete the certification course to become a child care provider
• You have sufficient German language skills (at least B2 level)

• Education, care, and support for young children, primarily those aged 0 to 3
• Supporting children in their individual development in accordance with the guidelines of the Bavarian Education and Upbringing Plan
• Care and meals for the children in our daycare
• Collaboration with parents in the form of a parenting partnership based on mutual respect and trust
• Participation in practice-oriented continuing education groups
• Collaboration with the Child Day Care Specialist Service
• Administrative and organizational preparation and follow-up

The work of a child care provider is a self-employed, freelance profession. The amount of their income depends on the number of children in their care and the number of hours they provide care.

The City of Erlangen pays a child care provider a base care allowance based on their qualifications, plus a qualification supplement (up to 5.50 EUR per hour per child) depending on their experience and level of training.

In addition, child care providers are reimbursed for their accident insurance premiums. Half of the premiums for appropriate pension, health, and long-term care insurance are reimbursed.

Any person who provides long-term paid care for other people’s children in their own home or in rented space needs a childcare license. So yes, child care providers need a childcare license.

A prerequisite for obtaining a childcare license is a suitability assessment conducted by the Child Day Care Specialist Service.

The following criteria are assessed through personal interviews, home visits, and participation in the basic training course:

• Personal Suitability
• Professional Suitability
• Suitability of the Premises
• Good knowledge of the German language

Of course, as the Youth Welfare Office’s specialized child day care service, we’ll be right by your side to support you from the very beginning!

Among other things, we offer you:

• Personal guidance and expert advice on educational issues, as well as in conflict situations
• Placement of children in daycare
• Information on current regulations and legal frameworks
• Training based on the DJI curriculum and the Competency-Oriented Handbook
• Monthly professional development sessions for child care providers
• Substitute care for children when the child care provider is unavailable
• Regular playgroups for child care providers and children
• Monthly payment of the ongoing cash benefit at the beginning of each month by the Youth Welfare Office
• Investment cost subsidies

The training program consists of two stages: a preparatory basic course and an on-the-job advanced course. These are supplemented by self-study modules and an internship. Upon completion of each course, participants submit a written assignment in the form of a concept paper and receive a certificate of participation.

The basic course comprises 85 instructional units (theory, observations at a daycare center and with a child care provider, reflection, and a written assignment). The basic course

• provides information on the responsibilities, rights, and obligations of a child care provider
• provides basic pedagogical knowledge
• serves as a decision-making aid regarding the profession

The advanced course comprises 215 instructional units (theory, self-study units, reflection, and the development of a care plan). The advanced course

• delves deeper into the topics of development, upbringing, and education of the children in care
• addresses the partnership in child-rearing and cooperation between child care providers and parents
• addresses in depth the specific working conditions of child care providers

We charge a small fee for participation in the certification courses.

The basic course costs 20.00 EUR.

The advanced course costs 100.00 EUR.
