Costs for waste disposal increase from January 1
Stand: 03.12.2025
The city council has decided to increase the fees for waste disposal for 2026. The fees apply for 2026 and 2027.
Reasons for the cost increase
As in other cities, there are several reasons for the cost increase. Mayor Jörg Volleth, who is also the 1st plant manager of the municipal green, waste management and street cleaning company, explained that
- higher personnel and material costs on the one hand, but
- but also a general increase in waste disposal costs.
Other reasons include
- an increase in the waste management association levy in the city and district, partly due to CO2 pricing, and
- an increase in the price of organic waste recycling.
Overall, costs will increase by an average of 2.8 percent, depending on the size of the container.
Cost-covering fees
The waste disposal fees are cost-covering fees, which means that the fees may only be high enough to cover expenses. Households with a 120-liter residual waste garbage can, for example, will therefore have to pay just over two percent more from January (6.24 euros, excluding self-composting discount). This also includes the costs for paper and organic waste.
