The Integrative Elementary School Learning Center is a daycare facility for children of elementary and/or secondary school age.
The municipal learning centers offer children, adolescents, and their families a holistic education, individualized support and integration, as well as counseling for specific challenges and questions.
The facility has a total capacity of 30 children and provides up to six spots for individual integration in accordance with Section 35a of SGB VIII and Section 99 of SGB IX. The facility’s staff consists of a director, an assistant director, and three specialized staff members.
The Integrative Elementary School Learning Center is located in the Anger neighborhood and is part of the Family Support Center based in that neighborhood. It serves children from the Pestalozzi School (district school) as well as from the Otfried-Preußler-Schule Special Education Center on Liegnitzerstraße.
A unique feature of the Hertleinstraße 22-24 inclusive elementary school is that it is housed in a GEWOBAU residential complex. This means the school is located right in the neighborhood and within the everyday lives of the children and their families.
The learning center is located on the ground floor. There are two groups. Each group has a group room, which is used for lunch, homework, and various activities and board games. There are also additional side rooms that are used as homework rooms, for role-playing games, as playrooms, and so on.
The facility has a workshop, which is very popular with the children.
In the building housing the neighboring facilities—the inclusive, mixed-age Lernstube at Anger 32 and the Open Youth Social Work (OJSA)—we use the hall for physical activities. A small adjacent outdoor area on this property is also available for shared use. The Lernstube also has access to the public lawn behind the building, and we regularly visit the nearby adventure playground.
Our educational philosophy is characterized by acceptance and empathy.
This non-judgmental approach is reflected in our acceptance of every child and their family, with all their resources.
We view a group as a gathering of individuals. Everyone is allowed to be who they are. An individual’s freedom ends where another’s begins.
The children are at the center of everything we do, and the focus of our work is on building relationships with them. A structured daily routine, classroom traditions, clear rules, and consistent behavior provide the children with a sense of security.
We practice participation and teach the children to actively shape their environment, in line with our democratic principles.
