New issue of "Statistik aktuell"

The latest issue in the "Statistik aktuell" series deals with a current small-scale population forecast for Erlangen. Based on the population as at December 31, 2024, the population is projected up to 2040 on the basis of small-scale birth, death and migration rates. The planned new development areas play a key role in the forecast calculation.

For years, Erlangen has seen significant population growth due to a "migration surplus", which was only slowed down slightly in 2020 by the coronavirus pandemic. The main resident population is expected to increase from the current 120,000 to around 127,000 over the next ten years. The largest increase in population is expected in the Forschungszentrum area due to the Siemens Stadtquartier Süd. Larger population increases are also foreseeable for the Stubenloh, Büchenbach West and Rathausplatz districts.

The age structure of the population will shift due to the gradual progression of the baby boomers into retirement age by 2040: 65- to 80-year-olds are expected to increase by almost a quarter.
