Since May 2026, there has been a new map on the website that clearly shows public disabled parking spaces in the city area. This was the city's response to one of the most frequent inquiries about parking. "Many people wanted to be able to find the locations of disabled parking spaces quickly and easily. With the new map view, we are creating more transparency and orientation," explains Schila Németh-Heim, the city's inclusion officer.
Strengthening accessibility and participation for people with disabilities
Around 130 public disabled parking spaces are currently (as of May 2026) listed. The overview is continuously being expanded and updated. It does not include disabled parking spaces on private property, for example at supermarkets. The map view is available on the city's website under "Parking in Erlangen"(www.erlangen.de/parken).

The new map is part of a series of measures with which the city of Erlangen is strengthening the accessibility and participation of people with disabilities. These include, among other things
- Bus driver training in cooperation with Erlanger Stadtwerke and Lebenshilfe Erlangen
- Advice for clubs and organizations on inclusion and accessibility
- barrier-free e-charging stations and
- improvements to accessibility in the Büchenbach-West community center.
At the same time, the inclusion officer emphasizes that there is still a need for action: "There is still a lot to be done to ensure equal participation for people with disabilities."

From there, you can easily reach shops, restaurants, and cultural venues on foot or by bus within the free downtown zone. All parking areas are clearly marked.
