Petrykiwka art from Brovary
Stand: 22.01.2026
In December, the artist Tetiana Liudvychenko from Erlangen's solidarity partner city Brovary encouraged an exchange about this special Ukrainian art form.
Tetiana Liudvychenko uses the Ukrainian painting technique of petrykivka painting, which is already on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This art form has its origins in rural huts, where the walls were painted with floral motifs using simple tools such as their own fingers.
Creative exchange
During her visit to Erlangen, Tetiana Liudvychenko exchanged ideas with creative people from the Center for Exchange and Making (ZAM) and the director of the Erlangen Youth Art School, Annette Rollenmiller, among others. They talked about future courses on Petrykiwka painting.
Workshops were held at ZAM and Kunstcafé Erlangen, where participants were able to try out the technique of petrykiwka painting for themselves under Liudvychenko's guidance and take their own works of art home with them. The artist also visited their twin city of Jena, where she offered courses in petrykiwka painting.
Donation sale at the Erlangen Forest Christmas
On December 16, 2025, volunteers from Spilnota.nbg also offered works of art by Tetiana Liudvychenko at the volunteer stand at the Erlangen Forest Christmas for a donation for Brovary. In the end, all the decorated plates, Christmas tree baubles and painted cards were sold and much-needed donations were collected for Brovary. Since the increasing attacks on the critical infrastructure, the Ukrainian solidarity partner city has been asking for support in order to build up a reserve of materials for emergency repairs. Anyone wishing to support the appeal for donations can find all the information at https://erlangen.de/aktuelles/spendenaufruf-fuer-brovary
Art exhibition in the community center b11
From December 5, 2025 to January 17, 2026, an art exhibition with works by the artist was on display in the foyer of the community center b11. The exhibition and opening was organized by the Ukrainian volunteer initiative Spilnota.nbg. At the vernissage on 7 December 2025, visitors were able to meet the artist in person and talk to her directly about this special painting technique.
Special thanks go to the Spilnota.nbg volunteer initiative and especially to Kateryna Chebotarova, who helped organize the individual activities and for the most part carried out and translated them.
