Chat tables - get into conversation in the café
Stand: 24.02.2026
Alone, with a cup of coffee in a bakery, but you would actually like to be approached? You can. With a project from the senior citizens' advisory board.
This is possible at any time! And it's even more likely with our "chat tables" pilot project. The idea is very simple:
In the participating bakeries in Erlangen (see below for an overview) there are "Plaudertisch" display stands on the counter. Take one of these stands and place it on your table. This way you signal to others that you would like to start a conversation. And you'll never be alone again!
This is what could happen:
- Bringing people together and sitting at a table with others.
- Get to know new people from a different environment.
- Get into conversation with each other.
- Being less alone.
- Perhaps more tables will be occupied in a café because more people can sit at one table.
- Spread a culture of openness and curiosity for each other.
These should be the rules:
- Everyone only reveals what they really want to reveal.
- It is not necessary to reveal your name, address or other personal information.
- Maybe it's good to stick to the "you" first?
- Anyone sitting at the chat table has no program for anyone who joins them.
- Everyone is a co-creator and jointly responsible for an appreciative, friendly conversation.
- We could come to the realization that listening is often more important than talking.
- We could listen to each other more and hear each other's stories.
This can get things moving:
- "Plaudertisch" displays are on the counter in participating cafés.
- Anyone who would be happy to have someone to chat with can pick up one of these stands and place it on the table.
- When you leave and bring back the dishes, you also bring back the "Plaudertische" display and put it back on the counter.
Advertising on the doors and / or on the counter of the participating café draw attention to the offer.
And here you can find the first Plaudertische:
- Der Beck on Hugenottenplatz (Hugenottenplatz 4)
- The Kalchreuth bakery on Rathausplatz (Rathausplatz 3)
- The Pickelmann bakery on Bohlenplatz (Bohlenplatz 15)
- The Lesecafé in the Altstadtpassage (Hauptstraße 55).
