Practical helper: information on crisis preparedness

Stand: 16.02.2026

Germany is one of the safest countries in the world. Nevertheless, people here also experience crises that disrupt their everyday lives: Extreme weather events, cyberattacks or a power outage, for example. This is precisely why it pays to be properly prepared.

The right answers can be found in the revised guide "Precautions for crises and disasters", which was recently republished by the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK). It is available to download in paper form from the town hall (first floor, Bürgerinfo) or on the Internet at www.bbk.bund.de.

The guide has been extensively revised: In addition to tried and tested content for classic emergency preparedness - such as in the event of a power cut, flooding or extreme weather - the booklet also provides tips on how to build up a sensible stockpile or which items are best to have to hand in an emergency. There is also information on warnings, how to stay informed despite cell phone network failures and what to do if there is a fire or if the supply of energy and heat is interrupted.

New topics with which the BBK would like to address current challenges include tips on how to recognize disinformation as well as information on where to seek protection in the event of an explosion. Last but not least, the guide explains how to deal with fears and worries in extreme situations - your own, but also those of family and friends and, above all, children.

Further information on the topic can be found at www.erlangen.de/krisenvorsorge. Every month, the city of Erlangen provides information on a specific topic in its "Preparedness for crises and disasters" series.
