Schools: High investments in the coming years
Stand: 19.05.2025
A total investment volume of over 71 million euros is planned for the next four years from 2025 onwards.
At the last meeting of the City Council's Building Committee, the investments in the school refurbishment program and the "Future elementary school and all-day care" program for the coming years were discussed. Between 2007 and 2024, the city invested over 206 million euros in building and equipping schools (indexed sum). Subject to budget financing, the medium-term financial plan also includes further high investments for the coming years. Both programs provide for a total investment volume of over 71 million euros over the next four years from 2025 onwards.
Which schools are being invested in?
A total of 19.85 million euros has been budgeted for the Friedrich-Rückert, Michael-Poeschke (photo: GME) and Loschge elementary school (gymnasium).
The gymnasium at Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium, the general refurbishment of Marie-Theres-Gymnasium and the extension to Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium are "on the books" at 7.19 million euros. At the vocational school, the figure is 43.97 million euros (Campus Berufliche Bildung). The general refurbishment of the Fridericianum grammar school is scheduled to begin in 2027 and is estimated to cost 22.98 million euros.
How is the school renovation program going?
Since 2008, the School Refurbishment Program (SSP), since 2011 the Future Primary Schools and All-Day Care Program (ZGG) and the need for school refurbishment beyond the schools selected in the SSP and ZGG have been regularly discussed in a steering group of the city administration. The relevant departments are involved.
The criteria for prioritizing and sequencing the measures are
- the space requirements according to educational needs
- the year of construction/age of the school building
- the building fabric
- the building services
- fire protection
- energy consumption and
the condition of the schoolyard and accessibility.
