School road assistants honored
Stand: 14.02.2025
They make an important contribution to road safety education in schools.
Together with Lord Mayor Florian Janik, the Verkehrswacht (traffic watch) honored long-serving school crossing assistants on Thursday. 17 helpers were honored for five years, two for ten years, one for 15 years and three for 20 years. During the ceremony, the head of the city thanked them for their voluntary work and took a trip back in time in his speech - from the beginning of the school crossing patrol in 1957 to the present day. Julius Deisel, Chairman of the Erlangen Traffic Watch, also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the volunteers for their work. The tribute was framed by a picture show with old pictures, with Wolfgang Bodenschatz providing the music.
What do school crossing patrol volunteers do?
They secure critical points on the way to school and increase children's safety. They are trained and instructed for their work by the police traffic educators. When carrying out their duties, they must be clearly visible and conspicuously dressed in road traffic. The appropriate clothing is provided.
