Rising temperatures, decreasing precipitation, and an increasing number of hot days. Water shortages have not yet become a major problem in Germany. However, especially during hot and dry summers, private citizens should also reduce their water consumption and use water more consciously. This is how we can conserve water, a vital resource.

Introduction of the Water Cent: Recording Meter Readings
Effective July 1, 2026, the Free State of Bavaria will begin collecting the “Wassercent” for the first time. For this reason, the City of Erlangen is now advising all water users who draw groundwater directly from their own wells to record their meter readings as of July 1.
Save on Sewer Fees
Take advantage of exempt water volumes: No wastewater fee is due for water consumed on the property that is not discharged into the sewer system (e.g., water used for gardening).
