Video: Diwali
Stand: 06.11.2026
Mayor Jörg Volleth and the City of Erlangen wish you a wonderful Diwali!
Diwali is one of the most important festivals in Hinduism and literally means “swarm of lights” or “string of lamps.” During Diwali, streets, stores, houses, and apartments are decorated with oil lamps or string lights. Not only the outer world but also the inner world is illuminated. The festival celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. For the Festival of Lights, new lamps are traditionally purchased to illuminate the path to nirvana for the souls of the deceased. Diwali is a festival of joy that is celebrated in grand style with family and friends.
