Election committee determines final election results

The City Council was elected in the local elections on March 8 and the Lord Mayor on March 22. The new term of office begins on May 1, 2026.

On Wednesday, March 25, the election committee of the City of Erlangen determined the final results of the mayoral and city council elections in a public meeting. Prior to the meeting, all voting results were checked once again by the electoral office. The minutes and resolutions of the election committees were checked. Corrections in individual electoral districts were confirmed by the electoral committee.

According to the official final result, 45,923 of the 82,061 people entitled to vote exercised their right to vote in the run-off election for Lord Mayor. The number of valid votes was 45,704, while 219 ballots were invalid.

Election of the Lord Mayor

In the mayoral election, Jörg Volleth from the Christian Social Union (CSU) received 23,482 valid votes and was thus elected Lord Mayor with more than half of the valid votes. The incumbent mayor Florian Janik from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) received 22,222 votes.

Election of the city council

The final result of the city council election was also determined. Of 82,294 eligible voters, 52,088 went to the polls. Voters were able to cast up to 50 votes. The number of valid votes amounted to 2,324,441; there were 1,407 invalid ballots.

The CSU achieved 703,572 votes and thus 15 seats on the city council. The Freie Wähler/Freie Wählergemeinschaft Erlangen received 87,651 votes and two seats. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) received 155,203 votes and three seats. Bündnis 90/Die Grünen/Grüne Liste achieved 539,679 votes and 12 seats. The SPD achieved 440,827 votes and nine seats. The Ecological Democratic Party (ÖDP) received 78,593 votes and two seats. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) received 101,310 votes and two seats. The Erlangen Left Party (erli) achieved 217,606 votes and five seats.

Of the elected city councillors on the SPD list, Florian Janik declined to accept the mandate. His successor is Sana Al-Maskari. The adjustment resulted in 10,333 votes for her, which means she moves up to the first place on the SPD list. In the preliminary results, Elisabeth Preuß still had the first place on the SPD list. On the CSU list, Jörg Volleth is vacating a place as elected Lord Mayor; his successor is Tobias Fey.

The names of the city council members

The elected city council members for the CSU are: Alexandra Wunderlich (21,317 votes), Christian Lehrmann (20,367 votes), Jonas Gulden (19,624 votes), Sophia Schenkel (18,799 votes), Adam Neidhardt (18,346 votes), Matthias Thurek (18,290 votes), Harald Hüttner (18.084 votes), Kurt Höller (17,759 votes), Alexandra Breun (17,188 votes), Annika Clarner (16,434 votes), Josia Topf (16,391 votes), Susanne Härtl (16,172 votes), Birgit Rudelt (14,969 votes), Martin Ogiermann (14,773 votes) and Tobias Fey (14,763 votes).

FREIE WÄHLER / F.W.G. are represented by Anette Wirth-Hücking (7,826 votes) and Felix Meißel (6,201 votes).

Robert Aust (11,721 votes), Rüdiger Reichow (10,829 votes) and Siegfried Ermer (10,491 votes) sit on the city council for the AfD.

GRÜNE/GL are represented by Eva Linhart (24,660 votes), Tina Prietz (17,891 votes), Dominik Sauerer (16,195 votes), Christian Eichenmüller (15,912 votes), Bianca Fuchs (14,141 votes), Ina Fischer (14.081 votes), Anne-Christine Leicht (14,062 votes), Rami Boukhachem (13,722 votes), Marc Urban (13,550 votes), Paulus Guter (13,360 votes), Christian Zwanziger (12,767 votes) and Jasmin Fleißgarten (12,709 votes).

The SPD city councillors are Munib Agha (13,521 votes), Sandra Radue (13,032 votes), Philipp Dees (12,965 votes), Sophia Waldmann (12,801 votes), Barbara Pfister (12,443 votes), Valeria Fischer (11,602 votes), Wolfgang Leyk (11,250 votes), Andreas Richter (10,363 votes) and Sana Al-Maskari (10,333 votes).

Joachim Jarosch (5,921 votes) and Barbara Grille (5,590 votes) join the city council for the ÖDP.

The FDP sends Holger Schulze (7,892 votes) and Michael Szekely (4,537 votes).

The erli is represented by Lukas Eitel (16,298 votes), Ronja Wegele (12,278 votes), Hanna Wanke (11,168 votes), Gabriele Stadlbauer (10,721 votes) and Manuel Leitlauf (10,693 votes).

The term of office of the Lord Mayor and the City Council begins on May 1, 2026, lasts six years and ends on April 30, 2032.
