More cemeteries open again
Stand: 25.02.2026
After the heavy snowfall at the end of January, the Dechsendorf, Kriegenbrunn and Bruck cemeteries are now accessible again. The central cemetery was previously reopened. The cemeteries in Büchenbach, Westfriedhof, Eltersdorf, Frauenaurach (new) and Tennenlohe are currently still closed.
Due to the heavy snowfall, numerous trees have been damaged, in some cases considerably, and branches and treetops have fallen. These hazards are gradually being removed from the ten Erlangen cemeteries.
Existing closures must be observed
In this context, the city council expressly points out that existing closures must be observed. In the cemeteries that are still closed, barriers have been repeatedly ignored and signs have been torn down. The damaged trees pose a danger to life. Once the work has been completed by the cemetery administration, the affected trees will also be inspected by the city green department. This department is currently busy securing hundreds of trees throughout the city, including on roads and in publicly accessible areas and squares.
The tree inspections are essential to ensure the safety of visitors and employees. The city is working flat out to complete all the necessary measures. The City of Erlangen is aware that the ongoing restrictions at the other cemeteries are difficult, especially for relatives in a sensitive and emotionally stressful situation. It asks for their understanding and thanks the citizens for their patience.
