An extension and renovation should meet the increased space requirements of a contemporary city museum. There is a lack of larger special exhibition areas, separate event rooms and an extended area for the permanent exhibition on the history of the city. Based on an initial analysis of the buildings and premises from a museum perspective, a museum master plan was completed in the first half of 2023. This serves both as the basis for the brief for an architectural competition (including future space requirements, room program and key operational requirements) and for the ongoing development of the museum concept and the new permanent exhibition in the coming years.
Due to the current tight budget situation, the creation of a museum quarter around the city museum will not be pursued for the time being.
It is not possible to make a statement on the costs at the present time.
