Inner-city development aims to enhance the area by promoting construction measures for public buildings, redesigning streets, squares and other public areas and supporting private initiatives for building renovations.

The inner city development area comprises two redevelopment areas: the redevelopment area "Erlanger Neustadt and parts of the Lorlebergplatz district" and the redevelopment area "Nördliche Altstadt". The measures of the integrated action plan for the inner city development area are being implemented on an ongoing basis. The largest construction project at present is the general refurbishment and expansion of the Frankenhof cultural and educational campus (kubic). The following measures are on hold due to the budget situation:
- Further development of the results of the urban planning/building design competition for the kubic/CEG environment
- Further development of the preliminary design for the redesign of Nördliche Stadtmauerstraße
The diverse package of measures is usually completed after 10 to 15 years.
