Downtown Development in Erlangen
Stand: 29.10.2025
The downtown development initiative aims to revitalize the area by promoting construction projects for public buildings, redesigning streets, squares, and other public spaces, and supporting private initiatives for building renovations.
Informationen
The downtown development area comprises two redevelopment zones: the “Erlanger Neustadt and Parts of the Lorlebergplatz Neighborhood” redevelopment zone and the “Northern Old Town” redevelopment zone. Implementation of the measures outlined in the Integrated Action Plan for the downtown development area is ongoing. The largest construction project currently underway is the comprehensive renovation and expansion of the Frankenhof Culture and Education Campus (kubic). The following measures are on hold due to the budgetary situation:
- Further development of the results of the urban planning and architectural design competition for the kubic/CEG area
- Further development of the preliminary design for the redesign of Nördliche Stadtmauerstraße
This comprehensive package of measures is typically completed after 10 to 15 years.
Federal-State-Municipal Urban Development Funding Program
As part of downtown development, public participation is facilitated through ongoing information sharing and the work of the Downtown Stakeholder Group. Project-specific workshops complement this work. Information on completed urban renewal projects in Erlangen is available on the City of Erlangen’s website.
