City center urban renewal areas

Stand: 02.09.2024

The heart of Erlangen's urban development is the historic city center. Within the formally defined redevelopment areas "Nördliche Altstadt" and "Erlanger Neustadt und Teile des Quartiers Lorlebergplatz", measures are continuously being implemented to increase the attractiveness and quality of life in the city center. This development was supported by the inclusion of these areas in the federal and state urban development program "Socially Integrative City" in 2004. From 2011 to 2016, the "Active City and District Centres" program (or "Active Centres" for short) was used to implement the measures and from 2017, the "Socially Integrative City" program was used again. From the 2020 program year, the two inner-city redevelopment areas "Nördliche Altstadt" and "Erlanger Neustadt und Teile des Quartiers Lorlebergplatz" will be included in the "Sozialer Zusammenhalt" urban development program.

Framework plan city center

The objectives of urban renewal are derived from the deficiencies and deficits analyzed in the urban renewal area as part of detailed preparatory studies. In turn, the necessary urban development and other measures are derived from these. They are implemented in concrete terms via an integrated action plan.
