Pharmacies; Oversight of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacy Regulations
The district administrative authorities (district offices, independent cities) are responsible for overseeing public pharmacies in accordance with pharmaceutical and pharmacy laws. To this end, they rely on volunteer pharmaceutical advisors.

Volunteer pharmacy advisors are appointed by the governments of Upper Bavaria and Upper Franconia, respectively. They are responsible for inspecting and supervising public pharmacies.
Pharmacies are typically inspected every two years. During the inspection, the honorary pharmacy council member verifies whether the pharmacy is being operated in accordance with the regulations governing pharmacy practice, the distribution of pharmaceuticals, and the handling of hazardous substances, and whether the provisions regarding advertising in the healthcare sector are being observed.
