Requesting Owner Information from the Vehicle Registry
With this online application, you can request information about vehicle owners from the vehicle registry online if you need to pursue legal claims related to traffic matters.
Convenient and digital: Simply fill out this online application directly in your web browser. In many cases, this saves you a trip to the government office.
To enforce or defend against legal claims related to participation in road traffic (e.g., following a traffic accident), the vehicle registration authority may provide information about the vehicle owner and/or the vehicle’s liability insurance.
Applications for information from the vehicle registry may be submitted by private individuals, attorneys, or public agencies. For data protection reasons, the application must be submitted in writing, stating the reason (and specifying the relevant license plate number or vehicle identification number), or in person.
The registration authority responsible for administering license plates is responsible for providing this information.
If you wish to file a claim for accident damage and only need information regarding the vehicle’s liability insurance, you also have the option of obtaining this information free of charge from GDV Dienstleistungs-GmbH & Co. KG (see “Related Links” for the link).
You can also obtain information about your own vehicles from the Federal Motor Transport Authority.
