Mayor Jörg Volleth
Curriculum vitae
My name is Jörg Volleth and I am the 2nd Mayor of the city of Erlangen. I live with my wife in the Hüttendorf district and am the father of three grown-up daughters.
Born and raised in Erlangen in 1971, I graduated from the municipal business school in Röthelheimpark in 1989. After training as a police officer in Würzburg, Nuremberg and Eichstätt, I worked at Munich Police Headquarters for four years before moving back to the Erlangen City Police Department in 1997 and thus to my home town. My last position there was as an operations trainer and coordinator for police operations training in Erlangen.
I began my career in local politics in June 2002 as a local councillor in my home town. Six years later, I was elected to the Erlangen City Council and was Chairman of the CSU parliamentary group from April 2018 to April 2020. Since May 27, 2020, I have been 2nd Mayor and Head of Sports, Health, Fire and Civil Protection.
The mayor's term of office runs until April 30, 2026. The next election will take place on March 8, 2026.
Interview with Jörg Volleth
We live here in a small city with an attractive job and housing market as well as an optimal medical care structure. Erlangen therefore offers many people the highest quality of life and a good range of leisure activities. I particularly like the fact that, despite its size, our city is well connected and people often know each other. In addition, our many students bring life and a very special flair to our city.
The smartphone - I would like to, but I can't. My bike - I love my bike. And last but not least, my smartwatch - I just find it interesting what it knows about my life.

My department comprises the Office for Sports and Health Promotion and the Office for Fire and Disaster Protection. Our core tasks include supporting and advising Erlangen's sports clubs, allocating and maintaining sports facilities, maintaining a comprehensive range of sports activities, promoting sports and organizing sports events. In this way, we also ensure the safety of our more than 112,000 residents. We also develop and implement preparatory measures in the event of a disaster. As the first plant manager of the municipal greenery, waste management and street cleaning company, I am also responsible for issues relating to our municipal trees and green spaces, municipal waste collection, winter services and cleanliness in Erlangen. As Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the municipal subsidiary GEWOBAU Erlangen GmbH and GEWOBAU Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, I am also the contact person for questions relating to municipal housing construction.
