Mayor Christian Lehrmann

As third mayor, together with the second mayoress, I represent the Lord Mayor and support him in his duties or deputize for him in his absence. I am also head of Department VIII "Schools and maintenance of public spaces". This means I am responsible for two areas that have a major impact on our everyday life in Erlangen: our schools and public spaces. Thanks to my training and studies with the police and over 25 years of service experience, public spaces are particularly important to me. I focus on the topics of "safety", "social cohesion", "shared responsibility for our city" and the "cleanliness of our squares, streets and green spaces".

My department comprises the Office for Sports and Health Promotion and the Office for Fire and Disaster Protection. Our core tasks include supporting and advising Erlangen's sports clubs, allocating and maintaining sports facilities, maintaining a comprehensive range of sports activities, promoting sports and organizing sports events. In this way, we also ensure the safety of our more than 112,000 residents. We also develop and implement preparatory measures in the event of a disaster. As the first plant manager of the municipal greenery, waste management and street cleaning company, I am also responsible for issues relating to our municipal trees and green spaces, municipal waste collection, winter services and cleanliness in Erlangen. As Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the municipal subsidiary GEWOBAU Erlangen GmbH and GEWOBAU Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, I am also the contact person for questions relating to municipal housing construction.

It's the people who make Erlangen worth living in. Our city combines many of the advantages of a large city with the feeling of a city where people meet and know each other. Erlangen is not only "open by tradition", but lives from the many different people, personalities and ways of life. It is precisely this mix that makes the city special. You often notice this after just a few minutes on Hugenottenplatz - someone you know is always passing by.

Unsere Kulturmeile beginnend mit dem Stadtmuseum Erlangen, dem Kunstpalais Erlangen und dem Kunstmuseum Erlangen – Orte, die auf den ersten Blick vielleicht unscheinbar wirken, aber mit ihren inneren Werten überzeugen und Raum zum Erleben, Entdecken und Entspannen bieten.

Das Rathaus Erlangen, genauer gesagt der 14. Stock – wegen des atemberaubenden Ausblicks über Erlangen und die Region. Alternativ lohnt sich auch der Turm der Hugenottenkirche Erlangen.

Und den Lorlebergplatz – für mich einer der schönsten Plätze der Stadt, mit besonderer Architektur und einer ganz eigenen Atmosphäre.

Meinen Kolbenfüller – weil es zwischendurch einfach schön ist, nicht zu tippen, sondern klassische handschriftliche Notizen mit Tinte zu machen.

Meine Fotokamera mit den passenden Wechselobjektiven – weil das bewusste Festhalten besonderer Momente mit einer guten Kamera großen Spaß macht und für mich ein wunderbarer Ausgleich ist.

Meine Küchenmaschine eines bekannten Staubsaugerherstellers – weil Kochen am Abend ein perfekter Ausklang des Tages ist und ich dank dem Mix-Gerät weder ständig rühren muss noch Gefahr laufe, dass etwas anbrennt.

I'm a big fan of face-to-face conversations, because personal exchanges often work better than written messages. That's why I'm always happy to meet people and talk to them in the city. Of course, I can also be reached via a variety of electronic channels - from email to social media. Or by letter or card.

My favorite place to relax is at a well-known confectioner in Erlangen with a view of the bustling city centre - together with good acquaintances and friends over a slice of cake, which usually undoes the efforts of the morning sports session in just a few minutes.

My daily routine usually starts with my cat very clearly indicating that her food bowl urgently needs to be refilled - and that she naturally wants to be praised when she eats. Then I start the classic morning routine and take a first look at the appointment calendar on my cell phone in the bathroom. Depending on time and the day's schedule, I manage a visit to the gym. After that, hardly any two days are the same: lots of appointments, changing tasks and constantly new encounters. I really appreciate this variety. It often gets late in the evening, the job is rarely a classic "nine-to-five job".
