Changes for the new year

Stand: 20.12.2024

Legal and organizational changes will also apply to Erlangen residents on 1 January 2025. The city administration has compiled a list of important changes.

  • The property tax reform with a changed calculation model comes into effect on January 1. A rate of 425% for property tax A and 590% for property tax B was approved by the city council. The notices setting the property tax to be paid from 2025 will be sent out in mid-January. More information is available online at: www.erlangen.de/grundsteuer.
  • Housing benefit will increase by an average of 15 percent on January 1. The state subsidy relieves the burden of housing costs for people on low incomes. It is adjusted every two years in line with changes in rent and the cost of living. A housing benefit calculator, the option to apply online and more information can be found online at: www.erlangen.de/wohngeld.
  • Care insurance benefits will increase by 4.5 percent in the new year. This will benefit outpatient, day-care and inpatient services. The relief amount will increase from 125 to 131 euros per month. From July 1 next year, benefits for respite and short-term care will be merged. The new annual amount is up to 3,539 euros. The requirement that respite care is only possible after six months of care is no longer applicable. The care support centers of the city of Erlangen and the district of Erlangen-Höchstadt offer advice. Care support center Erlangen: Telephone 09131 86-2329, Monday from 14:00 to 16:00; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 to 12:00. E-mail: pflegestuetzpunkt@stadt.erlangen.de. Information is available online at: www.erlangen.de/pflegestuetzpunkt.
  • The online payment method giropay will be discontinued on December 31, 2024. This online payment option will therefore no longer be offered at the City of Erlangen's offices in the new year.
  • New rules will apply to used clothing in the European Union from January 1. Old textiles must then be disposed of in the used clothing container - even if they are broken or worn out. This also applies to bed linen, towels and other textiles, which must be disposed of in the collection container. The aim of the new regulation is to gradually reduce the amount of waste and improve the recycling of textiles.
  • On January 1, the fee for street cleaning will increase from 4.80 euros to 5.28 euros (ten percent). For so-called additional expense areas (X, Y and Z) - which is mainly the city center - the fees will rise by an average of 27 percent. Increased cleaning costs are particularly necessary in the city center. To relieve the burden on fee payers, the city pays a ten percent share of the fees in cleaning classes Y and Z.
  • There will be a change in fees at the city library. The annual fees will rise from 17.50 euros to 24.00 euros. Use is free with the ErlangenPass, for reading mentors and for children and young people under the age of 18. Additional changes include processing fees for unpaid usage fees.
  • There are also changes to the fee statutes of the drainage company (EBE). For the 2025 to 2028 calculation period, adjusted fees will apply for wastewater (EUR 2.34 per cubic meter instead of the previous EUR 1.92 per cubic meter) and rainwater (EUR 0.70 per cubic meter instead of the previous EUR 0.77 per cubic meter). Cost increases result from investments in the further modernization of the wastewater treatment plant, increased energy and material costs as well as general price increases.
