Recognition of cultural competence

In cooperation with the city of Erlangen, the "Kulturdolmetscher plus - sharing empowerment©" course was offered for the first time this year by "Katholische Erwachsenen Bildung in Erlangen e. V.". The course is aimed specifically at citizens with migration experience who would like to volunteer to help new immigrants settle in Germany.

Developing an understanding of cultural differences and similarities

The award ceremony marks an important milestone in the training of future cultural interpreters. They can now build bridges between different cultures. The last two months have been spent working intensively on their biographies. This has enabled them to develop a deep understanding of cultural differences and similarities.

A kind of internship

Course leader Nimna Gerezghihier thanked the graduates for their dedication and commitment during the course. Each course participant also had to complete a kind of internship. The practical experience was reported on afterwards. There they were able to apply what they had learned directly. With their graduation certificates in hand, the graduates have numerous opportunities: acting as mediators between cultures and making a valuable contribution to cultural understanding.

Social welfare officer Dieter Rosner welcomed the project. It represents a further offer for cultural openness and is also in line with Erlangen's motto "Open by tradition". Kathi Petersen, Managing Director of Katholische Erwachsenen Bildung Nürnberg, was delighted that cultural interpreters could now also be trained by her institution in Erlangen.
