At its October meeting, the city council decided to change the street cleaning fees for the next two years. From January 1, 2025, the fee for street cleaning will increase from 4.80 euros to 5.28 euros (10 percent). For so-called additional expense areas (X, Y and Z) - which is mainly the city center - the fees will increase by an average of 27 percent.
What increases are there for which cleaning classes?
- Cleaning class X (road and sidewalk cleaning) will increase from 17.88 euros to 20.52 euros
- In the more complex class Y (daily road and footpath cleaning), the fee will change from 53.76 euros to 71.76 euros
- In class Z (roadway and sidewalk twice a day from Monday to Friday, once a day on Saturdays/Sundays), the fee will be adjusted from 73.32 euros to 97.44 euros. Increased cleaning effort is necessary in the city center in particular.
To relieve the burden on fee payers, the city will pay its own share in cleaning classes Y and Z. The city is reducing its own contribution from 13 to 10 percent. This also takes account of a note from the municipal auditing association.
Can a profit or loss be made?
Street cleaning fees are cost-covering fees. All expenses and income are determined for a two-year calculation period and are only used for this task. This means that no profit or loss may be made. The level of street cleaning fees is heavily dependent on the winter: As long as there is no snow or ice, the streets are swept.
Why is there an increase?
The additional costs are mainly due to rising consumption and material costs. In addition, future collective bargaining in the public sector must be factored into personnel costs accordingly. Necessary replacement purchases for vehicles and machinery are also subject to constant price increases. These also have a corresponding effect on the imputed costs.
