Thanks for recreational time for 20 children from Browary

Stand: 20.08.2024

At the beginning of August, 20 children from Erlangen's solidarity partner city Browary were able to spend ten days recovering from the war in their home country.

Thanks to the continued unbroken willingness of Erlangen's citizens and local companies to donate and help, the recreational trip could be financed and carried out.

Thanks to them, the group was able to do a lot during their short stay:
  • They explored Bamberg by means of a snippet hunt,
  • visited the Experience Field of the Senses, the Germanic Museum and the zoo in Nuremberg,
  • baked pretzels at Der Beck,
  • learned more about the history of Erlangen at the Erlangen City Museum
  • got free entry to the Röthelheimbad thanks to the Office for Sport and Health Promotion and
  • took part in the vacation program at the Umweltstation Jugendfarm e.V. Erlangen.

Mayor Florian Janik welcomed the group personally at the youth farm.

Ukrainian guests expressed their gratitude

Karolina Ruskava accompanied the group from Browary and thanked everyone who helped to organize and run the recreation camp. These thanks do not only go to the city in the sense of the administration. It is addressed to each and every individual who donated and made the project of this recreation camp possible. The children were in Germany for the first time in their lives and were able to learn and experience many new things here. Most important of all, however, is the psychological recovery for the children.

Thanks to the partners and helpers

Special thanks go to the Don Bosco Jugendwerk Bamberg, which provided accommodation, food and support for the group. The staff organized additional activities for the children, such as film and games evenings and a small party with bread on a stick around the campfire on one of the children's birthdays. Thanks to the numerous volunteers who accompanied and supported the group and actively contributed their own ideas. These included the Verein der Ukrainer in Franken e.V., the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Association in Nuremberg and the staff of Pact4Ukraine at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. Thanks also to the generous donations from the Bürgerstiftung Erlangen, Elektrobit Automotive GmbH, Stadt- und Kreissparkasse Erlangen Höchstadt Herzogenaurach and SiemensAG and all other companies and private individuals.
