Development of the "Siemens-Mitte" district
Stand: 23.12.2025
Things are moving forward: a combination of living and working. Around 1,300 apartments will be built.
At its last meeting, the city council set the course for the future development of the former Siemens site "Siemens-Mitte". The approximately 3.5-hectare site includes the listed Blue Tower and the former casino. A new inner-city quarter that combines high-quality living and working is to be created there, incorporating the characteristic building fabric.
Urban and mixed-use quarter
The basis for this is the winning design from a building construction competition held in 2022 with an urban planning ideas section. It envisages an urban and mixed-use district that forms the transition
- between Werner-von-Siemens-Straße
- Raspberry Palace and
- the adjoining residential areas
residential areas. The plan is for predominantly residential use along Werner-von-Siemens-Strasse and in the rear areas. It will be supplemented by commercial offerings and a food market in the former casino.
Improvement of the microclimate in the neighborhood is also being considered
Together with the construction projects already completed in Sieboldstrasse, around 1,300 apartments will be built in the immediate vicinity of the future humanities center in the Himbeerpalast. The quarter is directly connected to the future Stadt-Umland-Bahn. Green roofs and façades, roof gardens and intensively designed open spaces will also make a significant contribution to improving the microclimate in the district.
