Storing building materials safely
Stand: 02.05.2025
The removal of blockages causes considerable costs. Contractors and building owners can be held liable.
The drainage company (EBE) repeatedly finds that large quantities of sand, gravel, lime and cement are washed into the sewer system during construction work on public roads and squares due to inappropriate storage of building materials or the unfavorable position of construction machinery. As a result, rainwater inlets and sewer pipes have repeatedly become completely or partially blocked. Removing such blockages incurs considerable costs.
What to bear in mind
All building contractors and building owners are therefore urgently requested to ensure that
- the washing of building materials into the sewer system is avoided with certainty
- manholes and rainwater inlets located in the immediate vicinity of construction sites are covered with sheet metal
- paved channels are always kept clean of sand and debris.
This also applies to troughs and ditches in the area of modified mixing systems, such as in Büchenbach.
Liability for costs
In the event of sewer blockages caused by the discharge of building materials, contractors and building owners must be held liable for the costs incurred.
