Municipal heating plan adopted

At its January meeting, the city council adopted the municipal heating plan (KWP). It is an extension of the municipal energy use plan (ENP) adopted in May last year. The KWP serves as a strategic instrument for local authorities to holistically plan heat demand and heat supply at municipal level. The aim is to achieve a sustainable and cost-effective heat supply. According to the Heat Planning Act, the creation and adoption of a CHP is mandatory for all municipalities and must be completed by June 30, 2026.

Contents of the heating plan

The plan includes an analysis of the current situation, the determination of future demand, the potential for the use of renewable energies and an increase in energy efficiency. The plan provides citizens with an initial orientation: Where will it be possible to build or expand local and district heating networks in the future? Which districts are suitable for the construction of smaller heating networks? Which buildings require decentralized solutions such as heat pumps? And where is there still a need for clarification in the medium term?

Advice and support from the city

Experts from the city administration can answer specific questions about heat planning. The city of Erlangen offers free and independent advice on topics such as heating system renewal, energy-efficient renovation of buildings, sustainable new builds, photovoltaic systems and funding opportunities. Public presentation of the heating plan
