Costs for waste disposal increase from January 1
Stand: 28.05.2024
One of the reasons for this is a general increase in the cost of waste disposal.
From January, the fees for waste disposal will increase. This was decided by the city council at its meeting on Thursday with an amendment to the waste management fee statutes.
As in other cities, there are several reasons for the cost increase. Mayor Jörg Volleth and 1st plant manager of the municipal greenery, waste management and street cleaning company explains the reasons in this context:
- higher personnel costs
- a general increase in waste disposal costs
- a reduction in revenue from paper recycling.
Overall, costs will increase by an average of 10 percent.
The waste disposal fees are cost-covering fees. This means that the fees may only cover expenses. Households with a 120-liter residual waste garbage can, for example, will therefore have to pay a little more than nine percent more from January (33.60 euros, excluding self-composting discount). This also includes the costs for paper and organic waste. The future fees have been calculated for a two-year period. In this case, for the years 2024 and 2025.
