Cargo bike rental continues

The city has found a solution to continue the cargo bike rental service despite the necessary budget consolidation. The Erlangen Job Center is taking over the fleet of transport bikes from the city and will operate the service itself in future. This was decided by the Erlangen City Council at its October meeting. This means that an environmentally friendly and innovative alternative to the car, which has met with a great response in recent years, will be retained.

The rental service offers citizens the opportunity to carry out transportation tasks in a flexible and climate-friendly way. The variety of bikes is particularly noteworthy: in addition to classic cargo bikes with a large loading area, there are also bikes available that are specially designed for transporting children or even wheelchairs. This means that people with limited mobility can also benefit from the service - a unique selling point that makes Erlangen particularly innovative compared to many other cities.

A small user fee is to be charged in future to secure the long-term operation of the service. This will ensure that a reliable fleet of ten to twelve transport bikes will continue to be available for rental. The tariffs are currently being calculated. It is planned to offer short-term rates and to relieve the financial burden on less well-off people.

The continuation of the service by the job center not only secures the future of the service, but also creates new employment opportunities. Maintenance and rental are organized within the framework of employment promotion, so that the project also offers added social value.
