New Children's Center at the Bruck Train Station
Stand: 24.06.2026
The new inclusive childcare center at the Bruck train station was officially inaugurated on June 19. The city of Erlangen built the facility, which is operated by Lebenshilfe Erlangen. A total of 84 children can be cared for at the new center. Mayor Jörg Volleth attended the ceremony and addressed the guests.
The New Building
The three-story new building is accessible. It houses
- a daycare center on the ground floor
- a kindergarten on the first floor
- shared multipurpose areas, as well as
- an additional outdoor play area on the second floor.
To the south of the building is a two-part outdoor play area. In addition to two daycare groups, three preschool groups have also been established. Solid wood construction was chosen for the building. The interior stairwell and the outdoor staircase are made of reinforced concrete. The facade is composed of wooden components.
Property is exceptionally sustainable and cost-effective
According to the city’s Office of Building Management, cost-effectiveness and sustainability were central to the design: An optimized energy concept ensures efficient operating costs. The building is heated via district heating provided by Erlangen’s municipal utility. The wraparound pergola and the shaded facade prevent overheating in the summer, and the green facade provides additional shade.
To obtain the German Sustainable Building Council’s (DGNB) Silver certification, the relevant DGNB guidelines were taken into account during both the planning and construction phases. This certification serves as official proof of a property that is exceptionally sustainable and cost-effective.
Structural work began in mid-2023. In October 2025, Lebenshilfe began using the completed interior spaces. The outdoor facilities have been available for use since April 2026. Construction costs amount to approximately ten million euros. The Free State of Bavaria is subsidizing the construction with approximately 2.3 million euros.
