Rent a VAG bike
Stand: 22.06.2026
There are new “VAG_Rad” stations. This citywide initiative is designed to make it even easier to switch to biking and to transfer between different modes of transportation.
The “VAG_Räder” service in Erlangen continues to expand: Additional stations are now available to further promote eco-friendly and flexible cycling. A new regular station has been set up on Lachnerstraße in the Tennenlohe neighborhood. Bicycles can be conveniently rented and returned there.
In addition, two virtual stations will be set up during the summer months at the Wöhrmühle and at the Dechsendorfer Weiher. Unlike the regular stations, these are marked only by a signpost. The rental bikes can be picked up and returned within an area defined in the “Nürnberg Mobil” app. The existing infrastructure of bicycle parking facilities is utilized to provide an additional and attractive mobility option, particularly during the summer months.
Demand for sustainable mobility options is rising
With this expansion, the city is responding to the growing demand for sustainable mobility options while also improving access to key destinations within the city. The new locations make it easier to switch to cycling and help reduce private motorized traffic.
The new stations were carefully selected and reviewed. The goal is to gradually expand the bike-sharing system and continuously improve the availability of “VAG_Räder” throughout the city. Information on the exact locations, terms of use, and rates is available on the website www.vagrad.de.

Flexzone offers more options
The downtown area is the so-called “Flexzone” for the bike-sharing system. There, bikes can be rented and returned at the stations or on public paths and in public spaces. The Flexzones:
Between
- Siemens Campus/Techfak in the south and Schwabachanlage in the north
as well as - the large parking lot in the west and Kurt-Schumacher-Straße in the east.
Outside the Flex Zone, bikes can only be rented and returned at the stations.
How does borrowing work?
It’s simple:
Register
Download the NürnbergMOBIL app, register in just a few steps, set up your payment method, and you’re all set!
Renting
Open VAG_Rad in the NürnbergMOBIL app and scan the QR code. The frame lock opens automatically, and you’re ready to go.
Parking
Select “Park” in the app and press the lever on the frame lock down. A beep confirms that the ride is paused. Before
continuing your ride, select “Resume Ride” in the app. Please note: The rental period continues while in park mode.
Return
Return the VAG_Rad in the Flex Zone or at a station. Press the lever on the frame lock down. A beep confirms the successful return. The rental ends automatically. Please note: VAG_LastenRäder may only be returned to their home station.
How much does it cost to use?
The starting fee per ride is ten cents. Each additional minute costs ten cents. After 99 minutes, a flat rate of 10 euros applies for 24 hours. VGN subscription customers receive 600 free minutes per month and only need to pay the starting fee per ride. Further information on pricing and other details is available online at www.vagrad.de.
VAG_Rad is particularly popular for the so-called “last mile” between a transit stop and the start or end of a trip. Longer excursions are also easily manageable with the sturdy and smooth-riding VAG_Rad, which features a practical basket on the handlebars. Regardless of schedules or train stations, VAG_Rads are available around the clock.
