The VAG_Rad bicycle rental system, already familiar from Nuremberg, is now also available in Erlangen. Initially, around 80 bicycles will be placed at the following locations by the end of March:
- City Hall/Neuer Markt
- Arcades
- Hugenottenplatz
- Haagstraße
- Audimax/Hindenburgstraße
- Raspberry Palace/Mozartstraße
- Forest Hospital
- Central station/large parking lot
- Sieglitzhof/Lange Zeile
- Siemens Campus.
The number of stations and bikes is to be continuously expanded. The stations that are already active can be viewed online at www.vagrad.de (external link). Alternatively, they are also available via the NürnbergMOBIL app. A VAG cargo bike will initially be stationed at the station. More will follow.
Flexzone offers more options
The city center is the so-called flex zone for the rental bike system. Here, bikes can be borrowed and returned at the stations or on public paths and squares. The flex zones:
Between
- Werner-von-Siemens-Straße in the south and Schwabachanlage in the north
and - large parking lot in the west and Gebbertstraße in the east.
Outside the flex zones, you can only borrow and return bikes at the stations.
How does it work with borrowing?
It's simple:
Register
Download the NürnbergMOBIL app and register in just a few steps, enter your payment method and you're ready to go!
Borrowing
Open VAG_Rad in the NürnbergMOBIL app and scan the QR code. The frame lock opens automatically and the ride can begin.
Parking
Select "Park" in the app and press the lever on the frame lock downwards. A beep confirms the parking pause. Before
Select "Continue journey" in the app before continuing your journey. Please note: The rental continues in parking mode.
Return
Return the VAG_Rad in the Flexzone or at a station. Press down the lever on the frame lock. A beep confirms the successful return. The rental ends automatically. Please note: VAG_LastenRäder may only be returned to their home station.
What does it cost to use them?
The initial fee per ride is ten cents. Each additional minute costs ten cents. From 99 minutes, the charge is 10 euros for 24 hours. VGN subscription customers have 600 free minutes per month and only have to pay the starting fee per ride.
The cargo bikes cost 2.00 euros for the initial fee, then ten cents per minute. From 180 minutes, they cost 22 euros for 24 hours. They must be returned to their home stations at the end of the rental period.
Lord Mayor Florian Janik: "The bicycle plays an important role in inner-city traffic in Erlangen. With a city-wide bike rental system, we want to make it even easier to switch to bikes and between modes of transport. I am delighted that we have been able to create a standardized system in the city axis. This makes the switch even easier, especially for the many commuters in the metropolitan area."
VAG_Rad is particularly popular for the so-called "last mile" between the bus stop and the start or destination of the journey. Longer trips are also possible with the stable and smooth-running VAG_Rad with the practical basket on the handlebars. Regardless of timetables and stations, VAG_Räder bikes are available around the clock.
