Appeal for donations for earthquake relief

According to estimates, 23 million people are affected in the Turkey-Syria border region.

In a letter to his counterpart in Beşiktaş, Riza Akpolat, Lord Mayor Florian Janik has already expressed his deep regret about the terrible earthquake. Aid from the Federal Republic of Germany is already on its way to Turkey, including a unit from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) in the earthquake area. As everywhere in Germany, the Turkish associations in Erlangen and many people of Turkish origin in Erlangen are also collecting relief supplies and donations and supporting family members in the earthquake area. According to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), 23 million people are affected in the Turkey-Syria border region.

Mayor Florian Janik, together with the Turkish-German Solidarity Association, the Turkish Cultural Association, the Turkish-Islamic Community, the Erlangen-Besiktas ERBES e. V. town twinning association, the Turkish community in the Nuremberg metropolitan region and the city's Foreigners and Integration Advisory Council, is calling on the people of Erlangen to make donations.

Due to the town twinning between Erlangen and Beşiktaş, there are long-standing contacts with the Turkish aid organization AKUT. It has been active in the field of disaster and emergency management for many years. It is currently providing humanitarian aid in the disaster area.
