Smoke development due to forest fire
Stand: 16.05.2025
Please adhere strictly to the closure of the paths in Tennenloher Forst. No danger to local residents. Keep windows and doors closed if there is a smell of burning or smoke. Please also inform your neighbors.
The forest fire that broke out on April 30 in the Tennenloher Forest near the wild horse enclosure is still going strong. The firefighters were able to prevent the embers from spreading and reduce the firefighting radius to around 20,000 square meters. Due to the continuing drought and ongoing extinguishing work, the Erlangen-Höchstadt district office has ordered that currently endangered paths in the affected area be closed to protect the population. Together with the Federal Forestry Office and the Bavarian State Forestry Office, signs have therefore been placed on the affected forest paths and roads. The Erlangen-Höchstadt district office responsible is drawing attention to this today.
Safety of the population has top priority
The embers in the Tennenlohe forest are still smouldering. They still pose a serious danger. The ground structure is unstable due to the heat. Burnt or damaged trees can therefore suddenly topple over. The changing climatic conditions can also lead to increased smoke development. There is therefore still an increased risk of carbon monoxide poisoning - particularly in hollows or poorly ventilated areas of the forest. The known ammunition contamination in the ground also poses a potential risk, as its condition may have changed due to the intense heat.
Around twelve firefighters and technical relief organizations are currently working around the clock in the affected area,
- fighting pockets of embers and
- further secure the situation.
Entering the area by the public would make the work of the emergency services considerably more difficult and would also endanger their own safety.
The Erlangen-Höchstadt District Office therefore urgently asks for understanding and appeals to the public to consistently adhere to the closure of the paths and not to enter them - for the protection of everyone involved.
The affected area covers a radius of about one kilometer around the fire. A detailed map of the closed area is available online on the district administration's homepage at www.erlangen-hoechstadt.de/waldbrand.
Existing ban on entering the area still applies
The ban on entering the area, which was already imposed on April 1, 2014, remains in place in addition to the current measures. The areas covered by the ordinance
- can be accessed at www.erlangen-hoechstadt.de/waldbrand and
- may not be entered regardless of the current fire incident.
All current information is available
- on the homepage at www.erlangen-hoechstadt.de/Waldbrand
- via the ERH app by push message directly to your smartphone and
- the district's own social media channels Facebook and Instagram.
